Computer Security - Some Not So Well Known Facts

Here are some not so well known facts about computers and the Internet. Keep these in mind:

1.All passwords can be broken. Commercially available software can break same case alphabetical passwords in few seconds.

2.Data can be retrieved from disks even after deletion / formatting. Physically destroy your floppies and hard disks when you are done with them.

3.Data transmitted over a LAN can be monitored remotely from another computer. Be careful of what information you are transmitting.

4.Websites can and may be spoofed. Give information only if you are sure you are on the genuine website.

5.E-mails can be spoofed. They need not necessarily have originated from the "From" addressee displayed. Double check before you respond. Someone may just be 'Phishing' for information.

6.Viruses are bad, but they only damage your computer. Worms and Trojans may actually hand over control of your computer to someone else.

7.Any Anti-virus software is only as good as the last virus it detected.

Be Aware. Be Safe. Nurture healthy Computer habits.
