Often our children are loaded up with snacks high in sodium and taking this kind of foods would end up getting thirsty. As a result, they end up drinking sodas which are high in calories and obviously end up getting fat. This idea was published in the American Heart Association journal base on a British Study. According to Graham MacGregor, co author of the study by researchers as St. George's University of London, "salt is a hidden factor in the obesity epidemic". Dr. Myron Weinberger, a professor of medicine at Indian University School of Medicine said that processed foods are all very high in sodium, fast foods likewise are loaded with sodium. Processed foods and fast foods have been using this alternative to cooking at home since its much easier and faster. So the objective would be is to eat less of this salty foods, it can create a good impact on your cravings for calorie filled sodas which helps in controlling or eliminating the risk of obesity.

Where children are concerned parents must lead by example

Anyone who has watched Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me or read Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation would understand that fast food=crap, yet children learn from their parents that crap tastes good.

Look at this statistic:

Quote:
Nearly 25% of all vegetables consumed by children and teens were in the form of french fries. French fries are the most popular "vegetable" for children under age 5.

In other words, by the time a child starts school at age 5 he or she has already patterned his or her views of nutrition at home. We cannot blame the schools or the government for teaching our children what they've already learned from their own parents.

This doesn't mean that we are stuck in this pattern. Parents and children alike must commit to each other that they will do what is best for everyone concerned.

For the record, I am a stay-at-home dad with a three-year-old, so the nutritional aspect of parenting is a daily reality both for myself and for my son.

You are definitely correct

I have read an article that on of the reason why children have the tendency to suffer the same diseases as their parents is not only due to hereditary factors but on the foods served in the family table. Basically, parent who have hypertension and other health conditions often have fatty foods on the table. Obviously, the children will eat the same food and this will contribute to health problems as they grow. Thus, it is imperative to prepare healthy foods at home. Healthy body do start from the family table.
