Corbow's Top 5 Desserts for the Holidays
Corbow's Top 5 Desserts for the Holidays
I just finished baking a cake, and it seems we have about three different pies already in the fridge, and yet around this time of year we have no problem completely wiping each and every plate clean of these sweet eats. So, in celebration of the upcoming holidays, I’m writing a top 5 to show you just what kind of sweet tooth I really have.
---
5. Pumpkin Pie – So it’s a Thanksgiving dessert as well, but who doesn’t love a good pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream smeared on top? It never seems appropriate except for Thanksgiving, but you crave it so much you almost force Grandma to make it again for the big holiday. Oh and her crust is so flaky and tasty it almost sends you to heaven just thinking about it.
4. Banana Pudding – Mmmm, fresh vanilla pudding mixed in with ripe banana slices and topped with cookies. Now, my mom can make the best banana pudding and somehow she makes it where the pudding actually absorbs the bananas and gives you such a wonderful feeling when you take in that first spoonful. Also, instead of those vanilla wafers she would fix up a big sugar cookie and crumble it in. I loved it so much more this way!
3. Tiramisu – For the Non-Jewish kids, this is basically cake with whipped cream, eggs, cheese, and wine for a filling. The first time I tried it I was hesitant, but after that I will never go another Christmas…or Hanukah without it. Just give it a chance, you’ll love it.
2. Cherry Pie – This is nearly the epitome of Christmas in my opinion. It’s even got a prominent Christmas color as its filling. Warrant might not have been talking about the dessert but I sure am. Nothing beats those warm, gooey fruits fresh out of the oven and topped with a hearty scoop of vanilla ice cream…well except for one dessert.
1. Sugar Cookies – Now, I know these aren’t always the best tasting…at least not as good as some of the others, but I think along with the aroma and the memories Sugar Cookies easily come in at number one. There is always a fresh batch ready, and the whole house smells delicious when you make them, plus you can make them into Holiday shapes like a Christmas tree or a snowflake. You can’t help but eat at least 16 of them by the time the holidays are over, and yet it’s one of the only desserts you might not feel guilty about eating come New Years Resolution.
---
So it seems along with taste I also take into account the old fashion tradition and the memories of each dessert, but this is what makes the holidays great; each time they bring moments you can capture and cherish with what is hopefully a great family. It’s a time for eating, drinking, celebrating, and loving your loved ones.
Enjoy the Holidays everyone!
Much Love,
~Corbow6

YUM!! Cherry Pie!!
Good holiday dessert choices! I've never tried Tiramisu, but all of the other things you mentioned were treats at our house too!!
My favorite used to be my mother's 5 layer cherry cheesecake...mmm, mmm, mmmelt in your mouth. I don't recall ever having it unless it was at Momma's on the holidays.
When you grow up, you associate those special tastes with those special days for your whole life.
Thanks for reminding us how nice those traditions are.
