CAUSES OF CORNS:

Tight shoes
Deformed toes (Hammer toes)
Seam or stitch inside the shoe which rubs against the toe
Abnormality of gait (walking)
Surgery to the lower extremities
Due to chronic irritation

TREATMENT OF CORNS:

1)Do not walk bare foot

2)Salycylic acid can be used under medication

3)Avoid tight and ill fitting shoes

4)Use pumice stone to reduce the thickness of the corn

5)Use silicone sheets to alleviate pain and the occurrence of a corn

6)Use a foot cream, such as Flexitol heel balm twice daily. Flexitol heel balm is primarily used for cracked skin on the heels, however patients have reported a 90 per cent improvement to their corns with this cream.

7)Don't use corn plasters. They destroy healthy skin. Corn plasters should never be used by diabetics or by patients suffering from poor circulation as it may lead to ulcers.
