Cows - a child's poem
posted October 30, 2009 - 1:29pmWhen I was an elementary school teacher years ago, I would often write short stories and poems for my class of children when we were studying a particular subject. I was not always be able to find material that would inspire and help children write their own stories or poems so I wrote my own. Here is one poem with a humorous side about the beauty and characteristic nature of cows, especially dairy cows. It is still a useful resource for teachers to teach poetry and rhyming language.
COWS:
![]()
Cows, cows, wonderful cows,
Oh the way you empty your bowels,
Inside your body, your rumin helps pass
an "icky" brown cow-pie that once was grass.
Bovines are beautiful, with big soft eyes,![]()
and a long slender tail to swish the flies.
It's funny to watch you chew your cud
as you stand "mooing" in the grassy mud.
You are black and white, cream and brown,![]()
You love a-milking with barely a frown.
The farmer gently pulls on your udder,
so he can get milk for cream and butter!
