Craigslist is The Biggest Prostitution Ring in The United States

by TodaySTMJ4.comCraigslist sells anything- even people: by TodaySTMJ4.comPeople say you can find ANYTHING on Craigslist. Anything. Buy a baby carriage, clothes for your children, and hire a prostitute.

What?

Yup, a prostitute. Pimps and prostitutes advertise on Craigslist on a regular basis. Featured on the Dr. Phil national television show, law enforcement agencies are trying their best to get Craigslist to eliminate the erotic section of the website.

Craigslist says they have safeguards in place to prevent minors from entering that part of the site. A button that says, "I certify I am over 18" shows up that a 12 year old could click is the only safeguard there is. Craigslist says underage users have thier posts or ads deleted.

Law enforcement officials such as Sherrif Tom Dart of Cook County, Il. posted ads posing as a 15 year old boy looking for male companionship and as a 14 year old girl wanting sex. Craigslist did not delete either, in fact, a sex offender answered the second ad! How safe ARE our children?

A prostitute from Craigslist named Ashley came on the program and stated that if she had not gone to college, she would not be a prostitute "working" to pay off her studen loans. HUH???
A regular job isn't good enough? She has begun to explain away her choice claiming that prostitution is like drug addiction. One of her statements was that if she got a legitimate job and got laid off, she would have to go back to prostituting on Craigslist. She faces arrest (if she's lucky) and a record that could be held against her by future employers, beaten or murdered.

It is apparent that Craigslist isn't going to take down a money-making section like "erotic services" unless they are forced to by lawmakers or customers.

How can Craigslist users and others get this changed faster than the legislators can make laws?

Easy. If people who advertise on Craigslist pull their ads and refuse to do business with the site until that section is pulled, others send emails to the site demanding the erotic section be pulled, and letting them know they and their friends will boycott the site.

I never called for a banning of the site

I never stated that Craigslist was evil or responsible for all the prostitution in the US or in the world. I also never stated that people should call for banning the site Craigslist. There are no invisible dots in what I write, although there are people who want to make mountains out of mashed potatoes. I made it clear that the section named "erotic" where prostitutes and porn is advertised freely and is accessible to children with only a weak little button for "security" should be taken off the site. So did Dr. Phil, the detective mentioned in the article and the Atty Gen of the State of Il. (who was not mentioned in the article). For those who find their boyfriend, girlfriend, or soul-mate through the Personals, my hat's off to you! That is what that part of the site is for. And no one accused anyone who used the Personal section of being a prostitute. Tina Gallagher

I met my boyfriend on

I met my boyfriend on craigslist and I certainly did not post as a prostitute

You are fighting the wrong person Tina

Ok, I’ll give you that.. “At no time did I write or accuse Craigslist of causing a specific injury to any person.” I actually connected the invisible dots of your article and your response to a broad question I posted of “How did these people find out about Craigslist erotic category and what is posted there if they themselves did not look?” Your response of, “Where do I get my information from? I'm a former Paramedic.I've transported both injured prostitutes, pimps, drug dealers, rapists, and good people.” I took the response as meaning these people received their injuries because of craigslist. My bad, I apologize for reading too much into your statement of sources. However, I do take exception to your sarcastic attitude in these words… "I assumed that people knew Paramedics talk to their patients. I appologize for my assumption.” Once again, with your words, your attitude comes across as being pompous. That is not to say you ARE, it is a perception of your words and the inference of ignorance in another. Surprise!! I was an EMT on a volunteer fire department and experienced my share of conversations with drug users and injured good people. In the town I lived in, fortunately, there was not a rampant case of pimps and prostitutes, although there were many females who sold their bodies for the drugs. Also, I have not disagreed with your fight, just questioning why you believe that banning craigslist erotic will solve the problem of children’s access to such sexual content? You are actually fighting with the wrong person… email craigslist and fight them! MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

Source of Information

At no time did I write or accuse Craigslist of causing a specific injury to any person. My source? The people I transported. I asked questions, they answered. I assumed that people knew Paramedics talk to their patients. I appologize for my assumption. I will indeed continue the fight, and so will many others on both sides of this issue. Abolotionists fought for many years, and finally slavery was abolished. Just because it was legal for so long NEVER made it right. Obviously, it wasn't acceptable to everyone. While pornography and prostitution will not (Thank God) spark a civil war in this or any other country, social revolutions do take place. Tina Gallagher

Hide it and it will not happen

Although I asked specific questions, I see you are unable (unwilling) to answer them. Being too focused on "Ban the Media!" and "do as I say" keeps the mind closed to any other option or opinion. I did not claim that medical and legal forces do not know what they are talking about. I questioned "your" claimed source of information of craigslist erotic ads, which you failed to answer. If you want people to listen to you, then you need to listen to people. Parents responsibility is to teach morals, right from wrong, not to be a bodyguard all through their lives. Which means, teach your children about things in the world and the affects such things could have so hopefully, the curiosity is less. Only this will change the moral beliefs that you are fighting. "Sweeping things under the rug" or banning, is not the answer. Especially when it comes to social morality and behavior. Your approach may be the correct one in a political arena, but in a social one, (which is the point of view I come from)it comes across as a bit pompous and narrow minded. Again, just food for thought...think about your approach and the evidence to back up your statements of fact. Good luck with your fight Tina MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Thank you

I appreciate your support. If you read on, you'll find not everyone agrees, but we're all entitled to our opinions. I'm glad I'm not alone. Tina Gallagher

The sad truth

There will always be supporters and customers of porn and prostitution. There will also always be those who claim that porn and prostitution are protected rights under the First Amemdment of the US Consitution. These are the same individuals who take no responsibility for the consequences of their product, like the alcohol and illegal drug trades do. "It's the parent's responsibility to watch their children 24 hours a day 7 days a week," is the popular cry. How many times have you seen a Mother and Father out on a date with two 17 year olds to make sure they don't get into trouble of any kind? As for the idea that Police, EMS, Fire, Doctors, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Researchers, Prison Guards, FBI Behavioral Scientists, etc. have no idea what they are talking about is ludicrous. And, sadly, typical. I often wonder if the same people who defend pornography and prostitution would appreciate prostitutes at a neighborhood garage sale, or seeing porn magazines on a table at a flea market full of children. The same folks would cry "it's the parent's responsibility to keep their children away!" If a property has an open well in the ground or an unfenced pool, those property owners say the same thing. "Parent's responsibility." That doesn't stop the children. They will explore anything within reach. That's what children do. If a child is killed or injured, the property owner invariably acts suprised that they are held responsible. The alcohol and tobacco industries have made changes to their advertising to keep the advertising out of the faces of children, and the numbers of child smokers and drinkers has delcined. Those adults who provide alcohol to children under the fantasy "they're safe as long as they're at home," are being prosecuted for the harm they're causing. There will also always be the sad cry "a man has needs, a woman has needs," in regards to porn or prostitution. The truth is that real men don't need porn and neither do real women. Sadly still is the reality that the same proponents of porn and prostitution have no problems with pimps, who are nothing more than slave-owners. Attacking people who are against porn is a popular thing to do. Not on this site, but I have been met with cursing, degrading, belittling, and threatening behavior for saying that porn and prostitution should be eliminated. Abolitionists faced the same thing in the United States. I'm in good company. And yes, if Ebay owns a quarter of Craigslist, speak with your dollars. It's a language they ("business people") understand. Tina Gallagher

One more thing...

If you went to the link in my comment, you would see that Ebay owns 25% of Craiglist. Maybe we should all boycott Ebay too? How far do you think that would go? Unfortunatley, you are talking about morals and money and in today's world as much as I do not like it, money will generally always win. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! You make reference to "top shelf magazines" that is not what I am referring to. I am not talking of top shelf magazines but mainstream communication...Your local paper and mine..... but really what I'm talking about is the fact that the CEO@s choose to carry this rubbish becuase it makes money, simple... If you are an Ad Director and you are responsible for revenue, cost and therefore profit, most would not even contemplate losing what is 17.5% of your annual reccession proof income, plan.. who's regulating that? I for sure, always wanted to lose this rubbish, but I was always met with resistance
