Craigslist making around $100 million per year

Craigslist website owner is making around $100 million per year now according to Huffington Post. It was around $7 million in 2003. Craigslist charges a small fee for some of its classified ads. They're making millions from business owners and users. This is an inspiration for those who wants to start a website. It might work someday. The internet is the way for the future. Internet business owner are making hundreds and millions even when they don't even have a college degree.

They are having many legal battles which makes them look bad. The recent murder of the Vegas dancer and a few more murder from the past make them seem a bit spooky. There're a lot of legitimate opportunities as well as scams. You have to really look into all of the ads there.

Is Craigslist killing the newspaper? Well, not really. There are foreign language newspaper that are doing well. They wouldn't be anywhere on craigslist. People might not be into computers and they will go and use the newspaper. Craigslist founder said that he stills read the newspaper daily in print for reliable news. If you have an idea like Craigslist, you should go for it. You'll be a multi-millionaire one day.

I stand corrected

I stand corrected. I took the analysis as a projection or "could be" not as a fact. I tried to follow KP link, but it does not lead to the supporting article. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

Lies?

The article you link to, which sites a study from Advanced Interactive Media Group, shows that Craigslist makes an estimated $100 million per year. While I will admit Kay Pierre was a little bit careless with her facts (Joesph is right that Craigslist only charges for job ads in certain cities) the main point of the article is accurate. You just have to look up how much Craigslist charges for the certain listings and figure out how many of those listings are done in a week. From there you can easily make a good estimate at how much money they bring in each year. I'm thats what the research company did.

This is how news become lies

KP - Your article is misleading and a lie. The numbers you quote are a projection, not a fact. http://www.twincities.com/business/ci_12559813 MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

Yea, Ebay owns 26% of Craigslist, but,

that issue was done through one of their officers who was associated with eBay. Craigslist has been in and out of the California civil courts about this 26% several times. "Craigslist got its start when Craig Newman, the founder, was e-mailing friends about technology events in the Bay Area. The e-mail list grew via word of mouth and got so cumbersome that Newman created a website. People started to refer to it as "Craig's List" and people were visiting the site in droves. Pretty soon the site started to include classifieds. Popularity continued to grow - virally - and he incorporated in 1999. Today, Craigslist operates in about 450 cities around the globe. Its sole revenue is from fees for placing job ads, generating about $15 million in annual sales. Link to back up claims?

KP - Can you please provide the links to back up the report of what the owner said? Where did you get the $$ figures? It appears that you are just trying to make money from the Craigslist name with a bogus article. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Ebay owns a percentage

FYI - If you read Craigslist FAQ, you will find at the bottom that Ebay owns, I think, 25% of Craigslist. So, the hike wasn't that far. : ) MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

Correction - Craigslist does NOT charge for classified ads, but,

Correction - Craigslist does NOT charge for classified ads, but, they do in many areas, but, not all, charge for job-offered clasifieds. All the other classifieds are free and always have been. And, if people would read what Craigslist states in their policies, and in their warnings there would be less problems. People have put "making money" over logic and that in itself have put people, at times, in dire, if not deadly situations. Craig Newman founded Craigslist so his neighbors and friends in San Francisco could use the Internet to trade, sell, and give away stuff no longer wanted. Ebay, a few years ago made an attempt to buy Craigslist, and Mr. Newman told them to take a hike. I sell on Craigslist all the time. I follow their guidelines and I have no problems. I've even met a few friends through selling things. I found my roommate and house two years ago, and we are still glowing in happiness. I have found two jobs on the list, made money answering research studies conducted by legit companies right here in Portland, and worked some great events in town. I have also been able to reach out to people who needed things or information and I enjoy steering people toward something they need. Craigslist is no different than anything else. Follow the directions, the product works. Don't follow directions and you open yourself up to problems. It use to be called common sense, but, now a days a lot of folks do not know what common sense is. Oh, yea, they're so computer savvy, but when it comes to dealing with others in-person, many, have no-clue whatsoever. ↑ Grab this Headline Animator
