Yes, LightsCribe is great, but as you stated there are some limitations and the cost of having to buy special LightScribe CDs or DVDs. But still it's pretty cool..or hot..since it's a laser.. CD/DVD Labels? Kits? No Need! Lightscribe Does It All...

A couple of years ago I needed a CD/DVD burner. I ended up bidding for a HP Lightscribe External on Overstock.com. For $26 I won the bid. I wondered what exactly a Lightscribe burner was. It's pretty cool. It's a CD/DVD burner that uses it laser to actually burn labels, templates and custom designs right into the disk. When your done making a disk, you just flip the disk upside-down in the burner, create your label, and let the burner do the rest. It does use special blank CDs and DVDs and, yes, they do cost a little more (25c to 50c each). It also accepts regular CDs and DVDs, but, you can't burn-the-label. I would guess if you burned a lot of these things the labeling kit might be more cost effective, but, CDs/DVDs are not my favorite way to store any data, movie, or music. So, for me, someone who only on a rare occasion burns one, the Lightscribe is the perfect tool, and every label looks professional. And, the kit I assume gives endless amounts of colors, options, and designs, where-as, the Lightscribe is limited to more like an etching in black on whatever color disk you have (Lightscribe disks come in colors).
