Creative Christmas Ideas: How to Make the Holidays Truly Special--Without Spending a Fortune

Christmas is just around the corner. As the weather turns colder, many of us are thinking about and looking forward to the Holiday Season.

This article details creative ideas to make Christmas the joyful occasion it should be, without the financial pressure that can mar the Holidays.

Inexpensive Christmas Gifts                                                                                                                                                                                 First up is a look at ideas for inexpensive Christmas gifts. Most of us want to give great presents but not if it means breaking the bank. With a little know-how, you can give gifts that others truly enjoy. For example, who doesn't love cute gingerbread men? Baskets filled with gingerbread men make good, frugal Christmas gifts. Purchase an assortment of small baskets at a Dollar Store. Bake and ice a large batch of gingerbread cookies. Line the baskets with brightly colored tissue paper and tuck in the homemade gingerbread men. Tie gift labels on basket handles and give out these affordable and edible gifts.

Once you've figured out what you are giving for Christmas presents, you may be looking for ways to enrich Christmas for your family. Adopting new Christmas traditions can help to create lasting Holiday memories. How to create memorable Christmas traditions? One idea is to make a Christmas tree cake. A rectangle-shaped cake is baked and then cut on the diagonal in a zigzag pattern. The two flat sides are joined so that the zigzagged edges (the tree branches) point outwards. The Christmas cake is decorated with green icing. Smarties and tiny candy canes serve as tree decorations and red licorice is used to trim the tree.

Edible Christmas Decorations
Christmas decorations add a festive touch to any home. A  neat-looking Christmas decoration is a Christmas candy wreath made with brightly colored candies. Family and guests alike can help themselves to candies from candy wreaths hung around the home.

Homemade Christmas Decorations
Another idea is to make homemade Christmas decorations. This is a project that can involve the entire family. Homemade Christmas decorations can be made from a simple dough of flour, salt, and water. You cut out different shapes then air-dry or bake your ornaments in a slow oven. (Ornaments in the picture were homemade and used to decorate a wreath.)
