How to Erase Credit Inquires
To many Credit inquires:
- Indicate to a Creditor you are " Credit Hungry" and may be in financial trouble
- Indicates that your debt-to-income may be too high.
*Credit inquires should drop off your reports within 2 years
Step 1: Order all 3 of
your Credit Reports. Not a tri-merge report.
* Look towards the end of each report to find the inquires. Some are promotional- no worry
Identify only inquires shown to Credit Grantors.
Step 2: Find the addresses for each Credit inquire.
If addresses are not on the report, you can call the 800 directory. (1-800-555-1212) and request the 800 number for the inquiring creditor.
Step 3: Prepare letters to each inquiring Creditor, asking them to remove their inquiry. The Fair Credit Reporting Act allows only authorized inquires to appear on the consumer credit report.
Step 4: Some Creditors may provide documentation that an inquiry was authorized by you. Read the authorization carefully and if you disagree challenge the inquiry. Be sure to keep copies of all letters/e-mails.
-Send a letter/e-mail requesting the removal of inaccurate information.
-Always include any copies of proof you may have.
- Include consequences that have resulted from the wrongful information.
I can not stress the importance of keeping copies of all letters/e-mails (print these out).
Note: the best time to contest things on your report Mid to late November.
