The Chicago Cubs reacted quickly to the Milwaukee Brewers pickup of CC Sabathia. One day after their rivals picked up an ace, the Cubs countered by picking up Rich Harden as well as Chad Gaudin from the Oakland Athletics.

The Cubs dealt away right handed pitching prospect Sean Gallagher as well as Matt Murton, Eric Patterson, and John Donaldson.

Joy is most certainly in the air right now in Wrigleyville as the Chicago Cubs are having their best season in quite some time and now they add two very important pieces to the puzzle. Rich Harden, 26, has top of the line stuff and has been terrific so far this year with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 2.34. Harden has been bitten by the injury bug in the past, but when healthy he is one of the top pitchers in the game. Chad Gaudin will mainly be used in relief, but manager Lou Piniella is very fond of him and believes he will be important to their success.

Many analysts are saying that the Cubs got a very good deal out of this, only giving up one top of the line prospect in Sean Gallagher.
