Da Vinci Code and the Last Supper

Da Vinci Code and the Last Supper

The da Vinci code left many questions unanswered and asked a lot of questions. For those of us not Christians, and who knew of only Christ, the book made us curiouser about a lot of stuff like the knights templar, the holy grail, the last supper, the priori, etc. The best thing about this book is that it dared to involve a famous painting (The Last Supper) as also one of the most charismatic personality in history, Leonardo Da Vinci and asked all kinds of questions regarding them all in a pop format. It evoked interest in monuments both ancient and nascent (The Knight's Templar, Louvre). I would say The Da Vinci Code has done the most in recent tims for art and architecture!

The blog listed is terrific in that it provides links for to everything related with the code like Leonardo and his paintings including the Last Supper, the bible and the gospels and also early christian history by "genuine" historians (Dan Brown is not one of them)!

Go have your fill!

My Main Revision-Reason: The Gentlemen's Code

I might explain the gentlemen's code as a sort of sworn-to-secrecy/blood-oath/'whatever goes on in this place stays in this place'-contract, but it's better described as a general philosophy flavored with these words: "Of course." Take Jesus for instance. Several times throughout the Gospels, Jesus has to leave the crowd to be alone "to pray." How do we know he's praying? He's Jesus; 'of course' he's praying! After the resurrection, he sends the disciples off to 'make Christians of all nations.' How do we know he's sending them out and not just trusting that those who need Jesus' message will find his disciples? His dad was the first king (of the Universe, of the World, of Israel); 'of course' he wants the fealty of all his subjects!Disagree? Join Xomba to Defend Your Honor!

Who are the real revisionists?

In today's vernacular, I am something of a historical revisionist because I feel compelled to review what is "known" about historical events and review them with any new evidence that has been found, thereby ensuring accuracy. However, since certain historical events have been so politicized that the truth has become a casualty to expedience, people like me have been smeared with the "revisionist" label because our uncovering of uncomfortable truths threatens to expose certain political movements for the lies that are at their very foundation. I won't discuss the specific historical events in this venue, but I will say that every (and I mean every) historical event has been allowed to be subjected to scrutiny and revised in light of new, more accurate evidence except for one. That one is important because it illustrates what is down the road for everybody and anybody who challenges the "wisdom" of the powers that be. I am called a revisionist because I choose to examine history with a critical eye, yet the real revisionists are the ones who distort the historical record to enslave the hearts and minds of the masses. To quote Orwell's 1984 again, "Who controls the past controls the future, Who controls the present controls the past." Think about that next time you hear about a "revisionist" historian being tried in a kangaroo court for daring to question someone's political "truth". ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

great quote...and very accurate

it's a shame that the history we remember has been changed to something resembling bad fiction.

Orwell's 1984 was much more prophetic

"This process of continuous alteration was applied not only to newspapers, but to books, periodicals, pamphlets, posters, leaflets, films, sound tracks, cartoons, photographs -- to every kind of literature or documentation which might conceivably hold any political or ideological significance. Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct; nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record. All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary." (Chap. IV, 36) ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

So, Dan Brown Is the Next Orwellian Prophet

I don't remember any exact 1984-quotes, but the general message that 'History is decided by "The Press" (that of the textbooks financed by those who consciously decide what the time's "currency" is)' echoes through that book into The Da Vinci Code.Disagree? Join Xomba to Defend Your Honor!

bad lesson but used by educators

the lessons of "the davinci code" and the fact vs myth boils down to what educators have been doing for decades. it is called revisionist history.

Never 100% Factual: The Lesson "The Da Vinci Code" Taught

I think Dan Brown actually wrote that in Robert Langdon's final thoughts about the ordeal: something like 'in the end, it's really up to each of us to accept the history.' (Sure, 'what we accept' doesn't change "what actually happened;" but 'history' shouldn't serve as much more than 'the results of a test of a hypothesis.' That is, we follow the example which we choose to make 'our own example.')Disagree? Join Xomba to Defend Your Honor!

Dan Brown struck a nerve

Dan Brown never contended his book was 100% factual or that everything in his book took place, yet dozens of books and hundreds of articles were written decrying his "attack" on the Catholic Church by claiming that Dan Brown asserts his book to be 100% true. Da Vinci Code was, is, and always has been a work of fiction. I find much of it interesting, as I am a history buff, but even I know the difference between fact and fiction. Then, again, to paraphrase Shakespeare "Methinks they [the Church] doth protest too much." Click here if you have something to say and want to get paid to say it!
