Lucky i never had that

Lucky i never had that problem , but some people i know find it difficult to stop

Fun and interesting comment, thanks for sharing! :)

He sounds like a brilliant and wonderful man, glad you shared his story. I am really happy to hear that his health is great, if we could all be that lucky.... Like I always say, "to each their own," and if smoking works for him then so be it, he should do what is best for him :)

Calm after just one cigarette - and the guy is 80 years old! +1

I was just chatting the other day with a friend of mine. And, he's not your average everyday American, like myself. Casey is a Principal Engineer Scientist working in Advanced Electro-Mechanical Design, retired, from Tektronix Laboratories. He was telling me his doctor made him quit smoking. He said he wasn't able to get enough sleep, he was nervous, short with people, and it limited his abilities to design. Finally, after SIX MONTHS he went and bought a pack of cigarettes. He told me "...and after just one cigarette I was able to get back to inventing." His entire wall is lined with one U.S. Patent after another. He adjusted his smoking habit to two mid-sized cigars a day. "They last me all day, and I can now imagine, create, design, and invent," he said. So, here's a guy who has smoked since 17, and his only health problem is old-age. I admire him, so very much, I wanted to add two-cents on his behalf. I applaud you for not starting!

Hi jdubhub :) I think it is really great and very fortunate that you did not decide to start smoking. The Navy is actually where my grandfather had his first cigarette, for the same reasons you mentioned. I wish for no one to have to go through the tangled mess that comes from having an addiction to nicotine. Thanks for the comment*

I'm glad I never started

I had more than my share of opportunities to start smoking, particularly during ten years in the Navy when it was seen as a stress outlet or a cure for boredom that often accompanied long sea voyages, but I chose not to start. I may have my alcoholic, abusive step dad to thank for that because I wanted to do everything I could to be the opposite of him. Of course, I acknowledge that everyone is different and I am certainly not inferring that all smokers are like him. What I am saying is my heart goes out to everyone who smokes and who is trying to quit because I have spent my life around smokers and know how frikkin hard it is to quit an addiction to nicotine. Big Tobacco is the bottom dweller of the corporate pond and their disingenuous, pious attempts to get advertising by sponsoring smoking cessation programs should tell us more about how they view us than anything. They do owe us- to an extent.

Big Tobbacco Company StInKs! No, they never forced me to start smoking, however, they market a horrible product and they do their damndest to hook anyone they can by adding nicotine to cigarettes. They really are an EVIL company, all the money they have- they should be forced- to an extent,to at least help pay for treatments for people who are trying to quit, as well as treatments for people suffering tobbacco related illnesses. Thanks for the comment*

Thwart the Tobacco Companies and Make Money From Nicotine!

Although I'm of the opinion that the tobacco companies should pay compensation to all those they have encouraged people to become addicted, phlegm filled and smelly (I can say that because I'm a recovering addict not a self-righteous ****) I'm a realist too. That aint ever going to happen! That said I hope you (obviously a recovering addict yourself and not a self-righteous ****) are able to thwart their attempts to addict others and that you are able to make some money doing so +1 JOIN XOMBA HERE FREE Xomba is an international online community and anyone can join. How nicotine works is

How nicotine works is interesting. I wrote this long article http://article-network.blogspot.com/2009/03/electronic-cigarettes-quit-smoking-or.html Although it's about e-cigarettes there is a long section on what nicotine does in the brain. Nicotine on its own does not seem to be particularly harmful but it does interfere with our pleasure circuits, somewhat eclipsing the natural effects of dopamine. Join Xomba Here

Nicotine does try to control

Nicotine does try to control your mind--it is some powerful stuff. It is no easy feat to quit, but you are much stronger because of it. Join Xomba and Start Making Money from your Writing Today!
