"Dan In Real Life" Soundtrack Puts Sondre Lerche in the Spotlight
posted October 28, 2007 - 2:14amThe director of the new Steve Carrell movie "Dan In Real Life" wanted to make a not-totally- traditional comedy, and he wanted the soundtrack to be distinctive, too.
That led to the perhaps unlikely choice of Sondre Lerche, a 23-year-old Norwegian singer-songwriter, to write all the music for the film.
"Dan In Real Life" writer and director Peter Hedges supposedly listened to hundreds of CDs submitted to him, but found himself drawn again and again to the work of Lerche.
Although Lerche is young, the “Dan in Real Life” soundtrack is the fifth album he's got under his belt. He's become known during the last couple of years on college radio stations and those stations that play Americana or have a Triple-A format, but not much outside of that, except for dedicated indie music fans.
His shows in New York City sell out and people I know rave about him, but I hadn't heard any of his music until earlier this year. I've heard good things about “Dan in Real Life,” so I'll be interested to see the movie and make particular note of the music and how it fits in with the story.
