Dancing with Werewolves-Book Review

I just finished reading Dancing with Werewolves by Carole Nelson Douglas. I was pretty impressed. I was a little nervous because it was an author I'd never heard of before but sometimes fresh new faces are the best thing to happen to a reader. I particularly went with it because of the authors that recommended it, Sherilyn Kenyon (a very popular paranormal romance author) and Kelley Armstrong (one of my absolute favorites!)

Without giving away too much of the plot, the book is about a reporter who moves from Kansas to Las Vegas after seeing a rather disturbing episode of a popular crime show.

This book is different from most that I will cover because the protagonist is a human and the werewolves are the bad guys. However, I enjoyed that it portrayed them as evil but intelligent. Making choices that were logical given a mob boss's goals.

As for Delilah, I loved how many bizarre quirks she had like the car and vintage clothing, but don't overwhelm the book. It demonstrates a vivid knowledge of a character but without missing a plot line.

I love that even the dogs in the book have personality all their own but maintain status as normal dogs. Quicksilver is really different, it even raised my interest in wolf hounds. And little Achilles made me happy. Those little Tibetan dogs really are fighters.

It was also fun to see the realism tied in, such as one of the focus's being a popular television series spun way out of control.

My one complaint however is that it doesn't go very deep into werewolf culture. There are almost too many species of paranormal/magic so details are somewhat glossed over. However, for a light read or somebody just starting out in the genre a very good pick.
