Dangers Of Feeding Table Scraps To Your Pet

Table scraps should not be fed to your pets! Such practice can lead to various health problems, including pancreatitis, obesity, arthritis, diabetes, gastritis and diarrhea. You can ween off by substituting green and orange vegetables such as peas, beans, or carrots for current scraps and reducing their amounts gradually. Pet food contains nutrients essential to your pet. Table food may not contain these needed nutrients. Remember, just because you can not see damage externally, there still may be damage internally.

I'm sorry

Sorry Les, I should have been more specific. I was referencing "typical domesticated pets". I guess if he is hungry then you do not have a choice but to feed him table scraps. I didn't think about the owner's safety. A good writer should always write to address a diverse audience. ;)

Look, my house tiger has a good diet. And he also eats table scraps, in addition to his very expensive Purinax "Tiger-1 Chow." I have found it best to feed "Tiggy" his 10 pound helping of "Tiger-1 Chow" before preparing my food. I feel much safer when "Tiggy" is full and sleepy. He likes to sleep on the couch, a favorite, though somewhat tattered, bed, he has adopted. I had to quit eating meat, like steaks and roasts two years ago. Iggy made it an issue, licking me with that huge raspy tongue -- and that is when I realized it was the smell of the meat lingering on me and my clothing. He is house-trained and when he snorts that little tiger-snort that usually turns to a purr when you approach the back door to let him into the caged yard, I know all is well. He has a great purr, like most cats, but louder. You can tell it isn't a Harley thumper outside the front door if you listen carefully. When you hear that Purr, you just know he's contented! Occasionally, when I have the TV too loud and Tiggy is at the door, wanting to come back in he lets me know. Tiggy roars a Tiger-roar that can bring me and the nearby neighbors, right out of our chairs. It is an involuntary reflex, like jumping back when they roar at the zoo. The first time Tiggy did that, all the neighbors called to check on him. They can almost get used to it. But when people need to sleep and it brings them out of sleep -- well, there have been some complaints. Tiggy has developed a fondness for cantelope, but especially those from Rocky Ford, Colorado, and seasonally after his main chow, he will crunch a cantelope. I think he could easily crunch my skull the same way. He cleans it up, licking all the pulp and seeds from wherever they squirt. Sometimes he asks for another one. I spoil him. He always get a second one -- and has never asked for a third! I agree it is sound advice to avoid feeding your pets table-scraps -- for "health" reasons. It is also unhealthy to be in a position where your pet, one like Tiggy, takes a serious interest in what you are eating, and it is best to not get into a "possession contest" with your large pet. Even a well-behaved 525-lb Siberian would win the possession interest. I recommend Tiger-1 Chow, and I like it too, on occasion. I look forward to the older adult nutrition balanced Tiger 2,3 and 4 Chow Purinax also sells!
