Danielle, The Girl in The Window - Neglected Girl Finds a Home and a Hopeful Future
posted August 11, 2008 - 11:58pmThree years ago, in one of the worst cases of neglect police and child protective workers had ever come across, Danielle, a 6 year old, feral child was taken from the filth and neglect of her Plant City, Florida home in a rescue that would save her life and give her hope for the future.
In 2007, Danielle was placed in a loving home. Still not speaking except for a few coaxed words and the occasional spontaneous utterance, she is in speech and occupational therapy, horseback riding classes and enjoys and is soothed by Beatles music (as evidenced in the report as "Love Me Do" calms her frustrations).
In this Special Report by the St Petersburg Times, reporters interview her new family, her birth mother, the police detective who was called to the scene by a distraught child protective services worker, Danielle's Psychologist and her Speech Pathologist.
In this report you will hear interviews and see slideshows that will tell her story. You will learn about the conditions in which she was found, her physical and mental condition (then and now), the loving foster family that cares for her now, and the progress she is making and hopes for the future.
