Day 1: The Great Road Trip Begins

Monday Sept 8th 2008
And so begins the 'epic' road trip of Xomba founder Nick Veneris and his girlfriend as they travel from Jacksonville, Florida to San Francisco, California.

We woke up at 5:15am this morning (a time I haven't seen for quite awhile).

We were pretty much packed and had already loaded the car with some stuff the night before. It was just a matter of waking up and preparing the apartment to be uninhabited for several weeks. Unplugging all the electronics was first on the list. After checking news, looking at Hurricane Ike and scarfing down some breakfast we were off.

We left the apartment at 6:40am heading toward I-10 which intersects I-95 in Jacksonville.

We are being navigated by my father's GPS. We call it "Mother" not because it sounds like mom, but because it sounds like the computer system (named Mother) in the movie Alien. We actually talk to it like the crew did. Watch the original Alien movie and you will see what I am talking about.

After a quick trip to Starbuck's we get on the interstate. The sun hadn't even risen yet, I can't believe we made it out so early.

The trip is pretty uneventful with the only funny sign being
"Dirty Dick's Crab House". By the time we stopped for lunch at the Cracker Barrel (which is this southern chain restaurant) our car was covered in squashed bugs.

The Toyota Camry is doing nice on gas. Getting an average of 30 miles to the gallon.

We rolled into our hotel at Jackson, Mississippi at 4:00 EST.

Our heads kept repeating the lines:

"We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout,

We've been talkin' 'bout Jackson, ever since the fire went out.

I'm goin' to Jackson, I'm gonna mess around,

Yeah, I'm goin' to Jackson,
Look out Jackson town."
-John Cash and June Carter

I have no idea what the hell Cash was talking about. Jackson is pretty small and there doesn't seem much to do, but after riding through Alabama we were happy to see civilization again. The landscape is beautiful though.

We're now in the Central time zone and this is the farthest west I have ever been. We ate dinner at Olive Garden (Soup and Salad) and walked around Target just to stretch. Crashed at the Hotel pretty early and booked our hotel in Abilene, TX tomorrow night. Waking up early for a 9 hour drive. That means we'll be in Roswell, NM, our first actual destination, by Wednesday. Woohoo. Can't wait.

I'll let you guys know all about Texas tomorrow.

@IdLewiLd--Well, Now You're Getting into Tattoo Designs

& I think we ought to save those FOR the straight-to-video/-DVD sequels. ... but Uncle MythMan still KNOWS you're more awesome than NFL Cheerleaders, yet needs to hear *your* comments on http://is.gd/2s8V http://is.gd/22wY http://is.gd/1fSs http://is.gd/1fRg http://is.gd/1fSe & http://is.gd/1fSj -- Click His Stamp to Discover!

@MythMan:Bras & Panties

I mention T-shirt because it's part of the official Xomba wardrobe line. If Xomba lingerie is available, I'm not aware of it. But maybe it SHOULD be made available... it could be the perfect way to say you care! And guys, Valentine's Day is only five months away... wouldn't you love to see Abmox's bald, purple head on your favorite girl's butt-cheeks?

@IdLewiLd-"T-Shirt?" Wouldn't "Bra & Panties" Fill More Seats?

A bald spokesmodel with an alien cranium is a wonderful addition to all types of apparel! ... but Uncle MythMan still KNOWS you're more awesome than NFL Cheerleaders, yet needs to hear *your* comments on http://is.gd/2s8V http://is.gd/22wY http://is.gd/1fSs http://is.gd/1fRg http://is.gd/1fSe & http://is.gd/1fSj -- Click His Stamp to Discover!

@idL|Doesn't the Girl Have to Sign Something First?

Something for each 'revelation' we catch? ... but Uncle MythMan still KNOWS you're more awesome than NFL Cheerleaders, yet needs to hear *your* comments on http://is.gd/2s8V http://is.gd/22wY http://is.gd/1fSs http://is.gd/1fRg http://is.gd/1fSe & http://is.gd/1fSj -- Click His Stamp to Discover!

Bueller...? Bueller...? Bueller...?

So maybe the road trip is "Nick V's Day Off," or maybe "Knight Rider"? But it sounds like you're talking about "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Xomba T-Shirt." If it's a high-concept proposal with action, explosions, and sex appeal, let's greenlight it and shoot it single camera!

@idL|Or Is He the Next BATMAN?

Now most theater owners buy a BATMAN-movie without even checking to see how much it sucks (e.g. *-BATMAN & ROBIN-*?) ... anything you can eat popcorn to, right? But Nick's adventure is more- ... I don't want to say "chick-flick," but I can imagine 'a pair of pants that fits him and three other people' fitting into the story somehow! ... but Uncle MythMan still KNOWS you're more awesome than NFL Cheerleaders, yet needs to hear *your* comments on http://is.gd/2s8V http://is.gd/22wY http://is.gd/1fSs http://is.gd/1fRg http://is.gd/1fSe & http://is.gd/1fSj -- Click His Stamp to Discover!

So it is with most sequels

The first Matrix was a new idea, so it starting out with modest box office numbers. When the second Matrix movie came out, plenty of fans were primed to go see it. Same with Spiderman, etc. Will Nick III beat the boffo box office numbers of Nick II? Or will his further adventures be 'straight to video,'? LOL...

Funny How Part One is Less-Popular than Part Two

Was Marlon Brando in the second one? I forgot. ... but Uncle MythMan still KNOWS you're more awesome than NFL Cheerleaders, yet needs to hear *your* comments on http://is.gd/2s8V http://is.gd/22wY http://is.gd/1fSs http://is.gd/1fRg http://is.gd/1fSe & http://is.gd/1fSj -- Click His Stamp to Discover!

not sure

We're playing things by ear, but I'm afraid we won't be there long maybe 2-3 nights. Got friends there that we don't see very often and then off to San Fran. I think a big Xomba rally would be fun, but we got to grow and get more members first. Don't worry though we've thought about it.
