Day 3: The Truth Is Out There
posted September 10, 2008 - 9:24pmStardate: 09-10-08
We enter day 3 of the 'epic' road trip of Xomba founder Nick Veneris and his girlfriend as they travel from Jacksonville, Florida to San Francisco, California.
Captain's Log:
We awaken in Abilene, Tx at 6:00am. Rain beats on the window of the hotel room. Damn rain, desert my ass. Abilene has gotten 16 inches of rain this year putting it plus 3 inches than average. Jacksonville got 20 inches of rain in August alone. It has rained the whole time we've been in Texas, that's almost 700 miles for you guys counting.
We grab our free breakfast (Raisin Bran and a banana, agian) and hid out to our next destination Roswell, New Mexico. Roswell is known for the supposed UFO cover-up by the government in 1947.
Today, we drive from I-20 to Highway 84 and 380(I think). 270 miles left of Texas (and rain) it finally dries up once we get to New Mexico. West Texas is gorgeous with enormous read and green hills with rocks along some of the cliffs. Awesome stuff, not to mention the Oil Fields and cows. I've never seen an oil pump in real life before. Pretty cool.
New Mexico begins to flatten out at least near Roswell. Now we're in what I guess is more of a desert.
No longer trees, but what's called brush and the red clay is more the color of sand.
Still cows and some oil pumps.
We get to Roswell and gain another hour from moving to the Mountain time zone from the Central time zone. It's cool and dry here around 64 degrees Fahrenheit. We're not used to the dryness. We've gone from 80-90% humidity in Florida to 10% in New Mexico. My lips are chapping and my body feels dry. We've got chap stick though.
Time for our Alien hunt. Roswell is like a large small town. We find where all the shops are located and most of those are alien related. Here are some pics below.
One of the Alien t-shirt shops had a photo opportunity section for $2 a person. We took advantage of it and the pictures are below. Yes, those are real live aliens.
Let's not forget the International UFO Museum and Research Center. This museum is one of the reasons we came and with a measly $5 admission fee it completed the trip. These guys are no joke, you might be laughing, but this is serious stuff. The museum thoroughly covers the supposed cover-up with artifacts, movies and audio. The museum is actually a converted old theater. Check out the entrance below.

If you are coming to Roswell go to this museum. It even has an academic library on anything extraterrestrial.
So do I think Aliens actually crash land in Roswell.
Well....
I'm not sure, but something happened and the government covered it up. Definitely not a weather balloon and tomorrow we'll be traveling to the Very Large Array, (part of the SETI project).
I've got lots more to talk about and would love to debate the whole Roswell incident, but I am pooped. Plus, after the Very Large Array we'll be heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico another 3 hour drive.
So let me tell you what I do believe in...
KILLER CLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE

I'll leave you on this picture taken in front of a Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart hiring aliens? Yeah, I remember reading about that.
Until tomorrow;
Live Long And Prosper...
