posted November 6, 2007 - 11:39amHead of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, Julie Myers, has been forced to apologize for a Halloween costume party guest dressed in a striped prison outfit and sporting dreadlocks and darkened skin.
CNN reports indicate that Julie Myers, who hosted the party for for the Combined Federal Campaign and initially praised the costume for "originality,” has now apologized, claiming "a few of the costumes" were "inappropriate and offensive."
"It is now clear that, however unintended, a few of the costumes were inappropriate and offensive. While we were all thrilled to be a part of the CFC fundraising effort, I and the senior management at ICE deeply regret that this happened,” Myers reportedly wrote in a November 2 email to ICE employees.
She also has apparently reached out to the National Association of African-Americans in the Department of Homeland Security and to House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Mississippi, about the incident.
