Death Penalty for Woman Who Cut Baby Out of a Woman's Womb
posted October 28, 2007 - 12:32amA federal jury yesterday chose the death penalty for a woman who was convicted of killing a pregnant woman and cutting the baby from her womb.
The juror took just five hours to decide on the death penalty for Lisa Montgomery, 39, who was convicted of kidnapping and murdering Bobbie Jo Stinnett on Dec. 16, 2004, in Stinnett's home in a northwest Missouri town.
Montgomery was arrested the next day; she was showing off the newborn baby and saying it was hers.
The prosecution showed jurors photos of the bloody crime scene, and argued that the crime was premeditated, based on evidence including computer forensics that showed Internet searches on performing Caesarean birth procedures.
The defense claimed that Montgomery suffered emotional abuse from her mother and sexual abuse from her stepfather, which led to mental illness.
