Decorate Your Home for Fall
posted September 15, 2009 - 9:01amFresh cinnamon, autumn decor, and warm colors bring life and enjoyment to any living space during the fall season. Decorating for the fall can be practical and affordable with a few basic tips that will keep your design fresh and inviting. Autumn designs for the home are almost as popular as Christmas decorations, so the options are limitless.
Don't Clutter Your Space
With the wide variety of fall decorations on the market today, don't let the abundance of goodies keep you from a warm and subtle fall design. In general, a few dramatic and elegant pieces make a bigger statement than lots of little items. If you place fall items of dcor in strategic locations, they will make the greatest impact. For example, ornamental table centerpieces, aromatic candles, and strikingly colored wreaths evoke the best response. Be sure to complement your large autumn accents with coordinating colors. Oranges, browns, reds, and yellows are all complimentary fall colors.
Stick with a Consistent Style
Your personal taste can dictate how you like to design your autumn theme. If you enjoy a country style of decor, then use natural woods, candles, and crafts to accentuate your living space. If your personal style is more modern or contemporary, then decorate with glass centerpieces and amber colored stones or fresh floral arrangements. Whatever your style might be, do your best to stick with it. If you combine too many styles, you might find your fall dcor losing its style and impact. Interestingly enough, many craft stores and craft bazaars have autumn items that are relatively neutral in style. Large wooden or fabric pumpkins can be incorporated into most home decorating styles. In addition, thin berry vines and subtle candles can be effectively incorporated into most autumn themes. If you can find simple fall throw pillows, those can be placed in strategic places around the living room. The effect is subtle and powerful.
Remember Autumn has a Natural Feel
Avoid decorating with largely synthetic materials that look fake or overdone. Colorful leaf vines look fine on a large wreath but should not be placed all over the house. In addition, steer clear of potholders, towels, placemats, and tablecloths that have large printed designs. These often look unnatural and detract from a warm and welcoming autumn living space. Dried flowers, straw, and simple wooden pumpkins or centerpieces will evoke a softer and more inviting element to your home.
