Growing up, I always thought of yard work as the worst possible chore. I would watch my parents digging up weeds or raking leaves and wonder how they could stand it. Now I've changed my mind; I see the pleasure in yard work. My boyfriend's daughter and I started by planting some sunflowers and daisies. I didn't quite expect them to grow, or know what to expect really. Not long after, they both started to grow. It has been so exciting to watch, especially for her.

So the sunflowers got me started. Day by day I would come up with more brilliant plans for the yard. Maybe it's just the spring air, but my energy for this type of thing is new for me. For the past 3 days my boyfriend and I have worked hard, and it's so worth it. We dug up the weeds in the beds around the front sidewalk and replaced the weedy wreck with red decorative mulch. The jungle of the back yard got a good makeover as well. Now, instead of an explosion of half dead bushes covering the sides of the mailbox, there is also red mulch. This might not sound like much, but let me tell you, I couldn't be prouder of the transition! I think my boyfriend is pretty excited about it too; just maybe not as much as me.

Today my project is hanging ferns by the front door. I think that will be the perfect completing touch (for now). So, I guess the moral of my story is to get out of the house and do something that will make you feel good. Something so random can really brighten your mood; especially if it's something that you're proud of!
