This quote from Wikipedia I think perfectly describes the role Dennis Wise and other so called football directors have on the clubs they are supposed to be helping.

I think all of these dodgy football directorships which Club Chairmen seem insistent on nowadays is akin to them thinking they have downloaded some safe piece of anti spyware only for it to act as a trojan horse in the background, destabilise the operating system (aka the manager) and ultimately destroy the whole thing up!
