The Departed - a Movie of the Boston Irish Mob

I wanted to see this just the name got my attention.
I didn't know if I was really interested in this but I started watching and became fascinated. It is about Irish in the police in Boston a lot. We are part Irish which I am taken for sometimes but I was not brought up as that or as Catholic. I heard things about it as in lace curtain that they mentioned. So it was interesting to me and I didn't really know many Irish at home. There was swearing to get them all excited.
Leonardo DiCaprio was just going for it in this and the others did their part. the other one plays a good bad guy. Since I've seen Nicholson in comedy it's hard for me to take him very seriously but he was. He was scary in a way as Jo Blo says in his review on the link. (He loved it).
I wondered about it after a while all of the twists and turns in the plot. I am giving some things away. If someone is an informant I don't know how they can really watch murders or seem to participate. I thought one of them was a girl too. Maybe they were bad guys but still. That is for the police I guess but it does not seem as if that would be legal. There were holes in the story to me. He had gotten to be the head which didn't seem right.
If someone was really an informant he would have had to tell where the "rat" was. It was interesting though. They were sharing a love interest which was rather coincidental.
You would think about it with his identity might be taken away being with the mob and then no one believing him but I don't think anyone with any sense would let that happen. And meeting him on top of the roof again should have been done through the police. Find someone who is not corrupt. Is this impossible in Boston? And I have seen someone with a small job in the mob. Obviously I don't understand it. One of our relatives were in the police force also but I didn't hear about that from him.
I was disappointed in the end, I thought that might happen. It seemed as if it shouldn't have ended that way.
Ebert seemed to be thrilled but obviously I am a little different as happens sometimes and thrilled in a different way. It was fun to watch and there were surprises, big surprises but what happened to it in the end I thought, is that all you will say? Isn't there something else you would like to do. Shouldn't you have your gun out considering? At the end.
