Department of Irony: Iowa Flood Museum is Underwater

What happens when a once-in-a-lifetime event occurs more than once in a lifetime? Well, it catches a lot of people by surprise and creates some odd ironies. That was the case this week when heavy rains came to Iowa and flooded a museum. But it's not just any museum: Fort Madison, Iowa has a museum to the many floods that have occurred in the area.

The biggest was the 1993 flood, which was thought to be of such magnitude that it was a "100 year flood." This is the fourth time the flood museum has been flooded since the "Flood of '93" exhibit was added to the museum.

Unfortunately, last week's flood has left the Fort Madison flood museum like the rest of Fort Madison, and like much of that area of Iowa: completely underwater.

Renamed....

Maybe it should be renamed to "flooded underwater flood Museum"! A 'sadly' funny story, I must say!

Floods

These floods prove that evolution is a crock (just kidding, but evolution pro and con was a fiercely raging debate in the early days of Xomba).

Oh, No!

Here starts a month long battle between Pub and Les about the flooding of flood plains and the imperical data that proves both of their points!

Yes, stop living on flood plains

and in over faults which might be shaken by earthquakes. And in tornado-prone areas. OR where there might be monsoons. Or draught-prone stretches. Volcanos - not fun either, not when they get mad. And of course, no one really wants to live near fire ants. Killer bees - don't get me started. Ancient burial grounds - just watch what happens if you build on them! Near a factory? A nuclear power plant? Down the street from a pseudo-grunge-techno-thrash-hip hop band that does interesting but loud covers of Partridge Family tunes? No wonder we're having such a real estate crisis!!! Me? I'm going back home to the moon. (Lacks atmosphere, but no floods in way longer than I can even remember.) Seriously (?) though - fun article (on an admittedly not so fun subject.)

Wait just a minute... Are

Wait just a minute... Are you saying that flood plains...well...flood?! This can't just be a coincidence. I'll bet the flooded farm that all of this flooding and the damage it causes is the result of global warming. It has to be. How else could you explain a flooded flood plain? *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

... or London

Much of London would flood (has flooded) also... but I can't see anyone abandoning London or N.O. But it would make sense to not rebuild in certain areas of N.O. that are very low. The Iowa museum is in Riverview Park... you'd think that would have tipped people off right there that it might not be a good place to build a museum.

OH, THE IRONY ... Maybe we should stop building on flood plains!

Maybe there are just some places where humans should not build museums (or houses, or chemical plants, or shopping malls, etc...). New Orleans also springs to mind. Hmmmmm....
