Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick Will Step Down and Go to Jail, Directly to Jail
In a controversy that has spanned several months, Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick of Detroit will resign his post and serve jail time of 120 days in county jail for two felony counts of obstruction of justice. He had been charged with eight felonies related to perjury and two assault charges when he tried to interfere with police officers delivering a subpoena, all stemming from his attempted cover-up of an extramarital affair he had with his chief of staff, Christine Beatty.
