Did Women's Lib Hurt Our Society?
Did Women's Lib Hurt Our Society?
The thought occurred to me that the women's liberation movement which started in the 1960's, may have actually hurt our society.
Here's my theory: Women entered the work force because now they could gain access to jobs that men usually held. Suddenly many families had two incomes. They could buy more. They could buy more expensive items. Maybe two cars or a bigger house. The retailers and auto makers were definitely seeing the potential. Prices begin to rise to meet the new found income of families.
After a while families discovered that since prices had gone up, they needed more income. So now the wife had to go to work. Even if she didn't want to. No longer could a single income family survive financially.
Perhaps other fallout from women's liberation was more people competing for the same number of jobs.
I know full well that this article will draw the wrath of the militarist feminists. But one of the great things about this country is that we have the freedom to express or views.

You Forgot To Add....
You forgot to add in the lack of a parent being at home with the kids and how this may have affected society. Let's face it...a lot of kids out there are out of control now.
Expectations
"After a while families discovered that since prices had gone up, they needed more income. So now the wife had to go to work. Even if she didn't want to. No longer could a single income family survive financially"
People's demands and expectations have gone up. The size of the average new home in the U.S. has increased dramatically in the last 40 years, even in the last 20. When my friends and I were growing up we had modestly sized homes and yards, pretty basic bicycles, and maybe two TVs in the entire home.
Today people want much larger homes than back then, which of course means higher taxes and mortgage payments (not to mention energy costs). The simple TV has been replaced by huge, flat-screen models with cable on several sets, pay channels, DVRs, etc. Many people gladly pay $100 a month or more for cell phone service because they're convinced it's a necessity. Kids now have mountain bikes costing $600 and up.
Are these large, expensive homes or multiple electronic goodies essential? No, it's just that people's expectations of what makes up a normal middle class life have expanded dramatically over the years.
Look at the expenses of families in the past who lived on one income, and you'll see they have very modest lifestyles.
Have you thought about the alternative?
I grant you that the system isn't perfect. For that matter, ending slavery "hurt" our society, at least if we think about it in your terms. Inflation occurred, having to support more people now, having no more free labor, and so on and so forth. Every action has consequences, some of which may be undesirable, but that doesn't mean that it's the wrong course to take.
Your conclusions are illogical. Granting women the right to work outside the home, vote, and own property didn't lead to the break down of society or nuclear family units. That's just ridiculous.

Typical to blame women for problems in the world again! Make them a target because of how men always disrespected them, and still do today. If men would have respected women properly in the first place, they would not have fought for their rights. Men forced women to do that by dominating against their right to be an equal human being.
Women were successful many times in history, more than anyone will ever know about, because men dominated against them. Sometimes they used a man's name to get recognition, such as an author. Also many men (ie Henry Ford) were successful, solely due to a woman's influence. It was Henry's wife who encouraged and supported him to follow his vision, otherwise the automobile history would not be what it is today.
I never understood why everyone can't just appreciate other people for who they are inside, and not make a big deal about their gender, race, etc. Such discrimination is only about ego and nothing else, which turns out to not be worth very much after all is said and done!
It is way past time for women to receive the proper respect, support, and credit they deserve, especially from men!
