I have never considered myself a so-called "environmental wacko", but I do believe that we should all do our part to keep the Earth beautiful.  Every time you recycle, that is that much less garbage that has to be placed into a landfill somewhere.   Most people think that the process of recycling is very time consuming, expensive, and not worth it.  Well, then I found out that you can actually take 5 plastic bottles, recycle them, a make a jacket out of that material.  Is that not amazing?  Maybe someone could come up with a plan to take other people's trash, and turn it into other people's necessities.
