Differences Between Myspace and Facebook
posted May 15, 2009 - 8:18pmI have been a member of the my space community for quite a few years. I have enjoyed myspace until recently, not because it is not a great site, rather, because my friends and family have been straying away from the site. It seems facebook is the new place to be. Face book and myspace have both been alive and well on the internet for years, however, I've found that facebook has recently become much more popular.
For months my friends and family have been telling me to "get on" facebook so that I can be in touch with them there. I've been telling everyone "I'm too busy to do facebook and myspace." Well, curiosity got to me and I am now a member of facebook. I have been working on my profile and maneuvering through the facebook site throughout the last couple of days. I have found many things that I like about face book, and thought it would be fun to do a comparison of the two-myspace communities.
-On Myspace you can create a personalized background on your profile, you cannot do this on Facebook.
-A person also cannot personalize a "text bar," or "extended network bar" on Facebook, you can do this on Myspace.
-Facebook would not let me ask very many people to "be my friend" before a message popped up stating "suspicious activity." I do not recall this happening to me on Myspace.
-Facebook has a cool area called "the wall" where you can view comments your "friends" have been sending to each other. Myspace has no such feature.
-I have found it easier to locate my friends by their full name on Myspace than I have on Facebook. I've noticed that on Facebook "display names" are strictly first and last name. On Myspace "display name" is anything goes.
-I know you can blog on Myspace, I've not yet found a place to blog on Facebook.
-You can add up to 10 of your favorite songs on your Myspace profile page. You cannot add music to your Face book profile.
-Facebook really seems to be a more "tight knit" community than Myspace.
I choose to now be a member of both websites, I wouldn't want to think I'm missing out on something!
