Diprivan (propofol)

Since Diprivan, also known by it's generic name propfol, was discovered in Michael Jackson's home. Many people have been wondering what this drug is, what it's common uses are, and if there are any drug interaction warnings or side effects.

Diprivan, propofol), is used primarily as an intravenous anesthetic in surgery and prolonged use in Intensive Care Units. (prolonged administration can result in significant tissue stores of propofol).

Diprivan also causes decreased blood pressure, lower heart rates, cardiorespiratory depression, and reduced myocardial oxygen consumption.

Using Diprivan (propofol) in conjunction with pain relevers and sedatives can increase and/or intensify side effects. Anyone allergic to eggs and egg products or soy and soy products should NOT use this drug.

Now, I'm no doctor, but after reading about Diprivan and its side effects, it seems to me that this powerful narcotic could easily cause cardiac arrest in patients if not administered properly or if the patients are not closely monitored. I'm sure the same is true with many types of medication when administered improperly and warnings are ignored.
