Discouraged

Ok some of you have and do read my Xombytes. I read a lot of others and some I really like, others are ok, one or two I found offensive. I try unless really gross or offensive to give each Xombyte a vote. I also try and leave a comment if possible.

I have noticed however though I get a lot of folks reading my Xombytes and other peoples Xombytes, A goodly number neither vote nor leave a comment. The same people that do read and vote, leave comments, it is a few. Most don't seem to bother.

I feel like I am wasting my time. I don't know if what I am writing is appealing, interesting, dull and boring. Stupid or offensive. Like I said some have made comments and voted, many do not. How can we expect to improve or re-write if no one is voting or commenting. I have had some feedback from mostly the same people. The administrators are working hard to make this a better site. But mnay here are just hanging out and reading and that is about it.

Not sure if I care to stay as a member. I invited some and one so far joined and he was not all impressed either. It is not the administrators it is the majority of the members who need to make this site work and stay working.

I have met some really interesting people online here and gotten some feedback, some good, some a not so good. I have read some very good Xombytes, some informative, some humorous, some political, some entertaining, some religious and more.

The same people however mostly are reading and commenting and the rest of you are just being lazy. It only takes a second or two to vote. Maybe a few minutes longer to comment. So come on readers, let the writers know what your thinking, Good, Bad or Ugly.

I am still here

I am still here, Have not been on as much because first was gone to Bible camp where our main vehicle broke down 350 some odd miles from home Thankfully my brother had the time, equipment and truck to come to our rescue. Hubby is working on getting me another vehicle going. Not the van it's repairs are going to cost too much right now. Then I am back to homeschooling for the school year 5 of my grandkids. Have been doing last minute preperation for winter months as well. Helping get in firewood and putting flower beds to sleep for winter. Had company for three days as well. So just been busy a lot. But I have been checking in from time to time and I try and leave a vote for most articles. Usually a comment as well. Yes there are a lot of things to read and too many to read them all. I have found a few favorite writers and places and search from time to time for others. Not as discouraged as was earlier. Thanks for all your comments. I would like to know thoughts on some of my other articles since this one but last few have few to nada reads or if read no comments or votes. So not sure if the topics are of value or interest or not. Guess I will keep writing from time to time. As to icon's I am likely to change them from time to time as well because I am many things in one person. With multiple interests, talents and thoughts. I think most people are.

Hello everyone, stop and set awhile.

I think she's long gone from here.

Repeat, it only takes a second or two to vote

Celanith,

I suppose all of us writers know how fragile our egos are - we need contact and reassurance that we are reaching our audience. We also need encouragement and I understand how discouraging it can be to not be voted or commented on. I suppose that if we want the community to work all we can do is try. By putting your feelings out there, I imagine that others have seen your thoughts and may actually consider commenting when they come by next time.

The first icon

Was me and my youngest grandchild. I am sticking with it for awhile more. BTW I like a lot of your material. Don't always agree but still like it. I think you are a fun person with a dry sense of humor. I agree with the debate stuff. A lot is pure petty. However as to comments and votes even the administration has posted about the subject stating that it is important people comment and vote to help the writers improve content and encourage them, give help, constructive critisim etc. My own personal hang up is I am terrible with puncuation and sometimes spelling. I tend to have run on sentences too. Which is why my teacher hubby usually edits things for me. LOL I am just a lil' ole hillbilly granny, out here in the woods. :) Jen

Comment for Celanith

Well...I don't know what to tell ya. I myself never expect a comment but do hope for a read; and as for a vote, I couldn't care less. When someone has commented, though, it's like a little gift, and that's a nice thing to discover, like finding in your mailbox a letter you weren't expecting. The rub for me--the thing I find most troubling--is that this site has turned ugly; not the site itself, but the petty and pointless debates that rage on, with people exerting a lot of effort to try to look smart and be right. What, you might ask: they're arguing fiercely to "be right"? First off, if a person needs to do that, then there are more important things he/she needs to "get right" than trying to "be right." Anyhow, changing the subject here...one thing I noticed with your recent posts/comments is this: an icon can play a part (big or small) in how one's writing is read. Not noticing your name, I hadn't realized for a while that "you" are the same "you" I'd read in prior weeks. Your first avatar was of a woman holding a child (grandma and grandchild, probably); this new one feels more "mystical" and Native American. So, reading your stuff (before realizing that this "you" is that "you"), I had that newer voice in my head. Interesting, hm.

Xomba has grown

a lot in the last few weeks. It's gotten harder to keep up with all the new articles, and even to become aware of them. Maybe people are spending less time commenting because they're trying to read more articles. And until last week, users earned points for commenting and voting. I'm finding the AdSense thing to be a bust. I kind of wonder, as someone did a few weeks ago, if people reading the articles are even looking at the ads, or whether they just kind of blend into the background.
