Dispatcher to Murder Suspect: "Find Your Own Ride"

Maybe they're just conserving gas. When wanted murder suspect Cristobal Jaimes phoned up the coppers on 911 to turn himself in, the dispatcher blew him off. The taped conversation (via Fox Dallas/Ft. Worth) is almost surreal:

"To turn yourself in, you gotta go to the Lew Sterrett jail," the operator says.

"How am I gonna do that?"

"You'll have to take a car, bus or whatever, but they won't come pick you up. You just gotta turn yourself in," the operator replies. Uhh, turning himself in is what he was trying to do, right?

So what were the police doing that trumped picking up the guy who shot and killed Manuel Martinez on June 22nd? According to earlier reports Jaimes had driven by his girlfriend's house and seen her talking to the victim, then went to get a gun and returned, shooting him to death. Do the police in DFW screen employees for stupidity? According to reports the dispatcher still has her job. That says somthing.
