I laugh when people tell me that article marketing doesn’t really work. Typically, those individuals didn’t make money or get substantial traffic with their articles. I try to explain that article marketing is like any other business. The amount of success that you achieve is directly related to the amount of work that you do. If you do a minimal amount of work, you will see a minimal amount of success! If you do a great deal of work, you’ll have a great deal of success.

Why do I think that article marketing is here to stay? There were 2.6 million websites in 1998. By the year 2000, that figure had almost tripled to 7.1 million sites. By 2006, there were over 2 billion websites. Each of these sites needs a constant supply of fresh content. Articles are one of the cheapest and readily available sources of content. Therefore, I think that articles are definitely here to stay, and they are going to be even more profitable in the future.

The question is, how do you entice readers and ezines to consider your work? The answer lies in the title. Many people will slap any old title on an article. They look for something quick and will usually select the first title that occurs to them. This mistake can cost them readers, money, and traffic!

Pick your title with care. The title is your advertising for the article. It is the packaging that will either entice readers or cause them to move on. A good title will attract four to five times the viewers as the same article with a so-so title. I saw some research that indicated longer, more descriptive titles will attract many more readers than shorter, more concise titles. This is just the opposite of what we were taught as writers. The best written works use an economy of words. The exact opposite is true with your title.

Put as much thought into your title as you do for the article. Consider what you would find compelling. What words would entice you to read the article. Research keywords related to your article and try to use them in the title. Make it interesting and descriptive.

It is your job to write good articles. It is the job of the article to generate traffic, income, or both. Given the right packaging, a good article can do its job for a long time.

It took me 35 minutes to write this article and another 20 minutes to come up with the title. However, the amount of time that I spent on the title was time well spent. I can almost guarantee that this article with generate phenomenal page views. Thanks for reading!
