DmNews Essential Search-Engine-Marketing 2009

I get DmNews Magazine as a 'professional courtesy,' although it seems almost like "junk mail" since it comes weekly.
Anyway, I got the hard copy of the "2009 DMNews Essential Guide: Search Engine Marketing," rehd the first few articles and only skimmed through the rest, but I'll keep it for the rest of the year.
(And no, not just because of the hot-hot editor's picture next to her insightful editorial!)
I put my reading-mind on 'skim' after the first few articles, because they're a little too 'ROI'-focused for my taste.
The main take-away was the analysis of 'paid search-marketing' (in which you pay to show-up in the top search-results versus 'natural' (in which you show up in the top search-results because you best fit what searchers are looking for).
Rather than simply help you become better, these nerds–probably because their livelihood rests on how non-simple they make things–seem to point the reader to more-complicated tools to deal with the complications.
I would simplify it with a modified Golden Rule–something like 'Be the way you want people to be'–but it's hard to remember to just do that (and not to try to change the way people are!)
Any suggestions?
