Does Locking Your Doors Make You A Racist?
posted July 9, 2007 - 9:55amDo you lock your doors at night? If you answered "yes", you are like most people in this country that do so. Let me ask you a follow-up question: Does your locking your doors at night mean that you "hate" your neighbors? Of course not. Locking your doors is a necessary thing these days to make sure that no one walks off with your belongings and that you can control who enters your house for your and your family's health and safety. Plain common sense.
So, why do the proponents of illegal immigration call anyone who wants to secure our border with Mexico "haters", "racists", "bigots", or worse? If all we Americans want to do is control who enters our country for our collective health and safety, what is the big deal? Do the proponents of illegal immigration advocate that everyone, including themselves, leave their front door wide open, put our a welcome sign, and allow anyone and everyone to enter their house and help themselves to whatever they want, disregard the rules of the house, threaten their family, and demand that the owners of the house feed, clothe, and educate them, give them money on demand, and that the homeowners learn their language, without their having to learn that of the homeowners? Would mowing your lawn here and there justify their actions or would you view their presence as an intrusion?
That is the idiocy of our current immigration policy. Worse, those feckless bureaucrats in Washington are like the Neighborhood Association full of busybodies that tells you that you cannot have your garage door open after three o'clock when they were only elected to make sure that everyone had a forum to mediate any disputes.
