Do you really believe you will get rich on the internet?
In this year of involuntary unemployment and compulsive writing, not knowing what else to do with my time while some paperwork came through and I had a permit, I bumped into all these "product review" websites, write per post, or simply write and supposedly "make money".
I began a little skeptical. I signed up for Helium and wrote a few articles, nothing that took more than 15 minutes to write. Of course, I made money, the incredible amount of 7 cents. I dropped out. Came back a year later, and reading the forums, I thought I'd give it a try again. I wrote some more articles, and I won five bucks in one of its contests, but after two weeks of punching articles into Helium I realized that, while it could be possible to do, it is also drains my time.
It is totally time consuming and for practically no revenue.
Helium gives me something else than cash, after my monetary disappointment, what I found is that I build a little portfolio of not-so-bad articles that now I can show off in printed media and other websites that actually pay you fairly.
And Xomba? well, it's funny, the day I signed up I posted a review of an album and the next day I checked my adsense and it had gone up a couple of bucks, I put adsense on my blog almost a year ago and I had made also like 2 dollars in a year. My blog is not commercial so I didn't expect it to make much, but I had greedy eyes when I saw that with a small article of my favorite album, my adsense could wake up. So suddenly I started posting things that I didn't even care about. I almost posted something on that Spears girl who I have absolutely no regard for, but I was about to do it to see my little adsense go up.
I have decided that I do not want to spend my days typing for the sake of it, to see if I hit the jackpot, I find it hard to believe that people make much, I don't know. All I know is that for a moment, I got caught in "the dream" of making easy money. I would suggest that yes, we continue to write in these little places, maybe for pennies, but mostly because practice makes perfect and one day, these articles could turn into a real writing career opportunity.

being rich
The first problem is your goal. Being rich???
There are people on here who make close to (if not over) $2,000 a month. They aren't rich by any means, but they are quite happy.
If it was easy "to be rich" then everyone would be rich.
Xomba was never designed to make people rich. It was designed for people who like to write and earn money.
We share thousands of dollars a month with people on this site.
I know this because we're giving away the same amount we make monthly.
Xomba is a very transparent business model. Which is important for us because we don't want people thinking it is a scam.
I can't speak for Helium or other sites, but I know there are people on here who would disagree with you about making pennies.
Making $100 or more a year on one article that took you maybe an hour to write is not just pennies a day. Sure, it won't make you rich, but if you continue to write you'll begin to pay bills with your adsense account.
You should only write what makes you happy and I completely agree with your statement about practicing writing.
However, remember some people treat Xomba as a game and get a lot of enjoyment out of "playing" it. While others write very thoughtful useful articles that are read by hundreds a week. It is hard to get read by hundreds on a weekly basis if you just have your own blog.
This "little site" makes a lot of people some extra money. Makes even more happy. And I, for one, am pretty proud of that.
