Do you remember your first love?

Do you remember your first love?

Do you remember your first love? Does it seem like yesterday? Or has the years faded that memory to a distant dream?

For me, I remember my first love like it was yesterday. In part because I have been given the chance to live that first love all over again. The year was 1991, I was but a mere child. I was sixteen. I hated school with a passion. Actually it was worse than that. I would do anything I could to not go to school. I had just moved in with my mother after her and my dads divorce. I was a junior in high school. I had made a few friends. It was at the time of year when graduation parties were just beginning.  Friends of mine were having a party at the local lake and invited me to join them. I didn't really know but a couple of them but agreed to go anyway.

As most of those parties go there was a lot of drinking going on that night. I still don't remember everything from that night. I went as the date to this guy I didn't know very well. Thankfully for me at the time, he drank way to much and passed out very early. That left the night for me to talk to other people. It was that night that I met the man that has held my heart since.

For this story I will call him Victor.

I was sitting on the dock to the lake drinking my beer. I don't know how many I had already had at that point. When this man came over and asked if he could join me. I remember looking up and wondering why he would want to sit with me when there were so many other girls that he could have spent time with. Still I said yes. We sat and talked for hours about nothing and everything. I don't remember much of anything of our talk. I do remember however that he was very intentive. We all spent the night at the lake that night.

The next day I had to go home. I just couldn't get the man from the dock out of my mind. I started asking the people that I knew had been at the party where Victor hung out most. It seemed like I always got the same answer. He worked at a local pizza joint.

My mother had been hounding me about needing to get a job for after school. So I went to the pizza joint and applied. I spoke with the manager that same day and was hired on the spot.  As I was sitting there talking to the manager in walked Victor. I didn't think that he would even remember me. I was wrong. Not only did he remember but he was glad I tracked him down.

We started dating a few days later. Every night after work we would hang out together. My favorite thing was going to the local bowling alley and watching Victor bowl. I had my reasons for that being my favorite thing to do. You see he looked fine in those tight blue jeans he wore.

Anyway, after we had been dating for about two weeks, he came in to work one night and came up behind me. He wrapped his arms around me and handed me a small ring box. I about fainted right there. He opened the box when he saw my face. Inside were my very first pair of diamond earrings.

We dated for about a year when I became pregnant. Victor was in college at that point. He had talked about quitting a few times, and I had always been able to talk him out of it. I knew in my heart that if Victor knew that I was going to have his baby that he would want to do the right thing and get married. He would have quit college and gotten a job to support the baby and I. That was just how he was and still is. That is one thing I love about him.

Anyway, I didn't want him to give up school and the career thathe always wanted. So I decided not to tell him that I was pregnant. Instead I left home and had the baby. Now the time is nineteen years later. He knows about our daughter, has even seen her and gotten to know her. Its like they never missed a day of being together.

He and I have both grown up a lot since our teens. We are now planning on a summer wedding with all of our children there with us. Right on the banks of the lake we first met at.

Thank you Maxgoodlife

I appreciate the comments.

Yes the story is real life. I am not a well enough writer to be able to make it up. This is my life. It plays out every day. It began about a year ago.  When I stumbled across Victor's profile on Classmates.

First love - always difficult to forget

Can relate to the article!!! Congratulations first on the upcoming wedding :-) (wonder if its real life or just a story!! Hope its real as it seems sooooo nice!!). Post reading the write-up, I wonder why 'first love' we all remeber with both 'warmth' and 'pain'. And wonder, does 'first love' work or is it always destined to be the loser???

Thanks for the nice post!!
