Do you think you're fooling anyone when you order a Diet Cola?
posted October 2, 2006 - 1:09pmI think this is pretty obvious but I am going to state it anyway because judging by the way office workers eat lunch they are clueless. ATTENTION: Smoothies are a meal in itself. Yes, they are healthy and some come with protein, vitamins, and immunity boosts, but that does not make it okay to eat along with a BBQ Beef Sandwich. What makes these people decide that this is an okay combination? Not just sandwiches, I've seen business people do it with nachos, or tacos, or even fast food! There are so many things wrong with this concept. You defeat the purpose of a health shake by coupling it with a saturated fat nightmare. Then there are the people at TGIFridays who order their mushroom hambugers with Seasoned fries and mozzerella stick appetizers and then ask for a DIET Coke. Like anyone thinks you are on a diet. When you do that all you do is make your waitress laugh! I know because my friend is a waitress and she tells me of the people who come in her resturaunt and order these heart attacks on a plate meals with a DIET Coke. There used to be a time in this nations country when small drinks were the large drinks and a small fry was a large fry and 2,000 calorie based diet was really all you should eat. Well, look at this typical office worker-on-the-go menu and tell me what you think.
Breakfast: - NO TIME-Late!
Break - Office Bagel w/ cream cheese or worse yet - donuts at meeting
Black coffee
Lunch - Time for a power lunch! Jamba Juice original size with Burger King value meal.
After work Power UP! - The day is dragging and you need some caffeine so on your way home you drop by starbucks. Oooh, it's October! Grande Pumpkin Spice Latte and a crumble coffee cake. Don't forget to pick a couple drinks up for the kids!
Dinner - Everything has gone wrong! Your behind on the housework, you forgot to leave out the steak to thaw and your spouse is running late from work and has suggested picking up something. That's a relief to you cus lord knows you don't want to make a huge mess in the kitchen. How's a KFC Dinner pack, they asks. Sounds GOOD!
Late Night cravings - It's midnight and you are praying you'll have the rest of your work straightened away in an hour....if you're lucky. You take a 5 minute break from the hypnotic computer screen and find a beer and some BBQ Lays to snack on.
So how much of the 2000 calorie diet have you gone over???

GRAND TOTAL OF!!!!!! = 4,622 (that's with eating EVERYTHING listed, feel free to subtract items you wouldn't have in a single day.
I use http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_food.html to find all my calculations
Now I know this is exaggerated in that you aren't probably going to get fast food for lunch and then have fast food for dinner and still be hungry for a late night snack and Starbucks but have fun with this! Make a faux day of what you DO eat and see how many calories you are consuming.
The truth is, thinking Jamba Juice with a Bacon Mushroom Swiss from Carl's Jr. is a healthy alternative to Soda just plain isn't. Have a water instead...or here's a crazy concept - just have the Jamba Juice.
The funny thing about my ranting is that it is probably self defeating. The list of food is probably making more people hungry then enlightened! Oh well,go enjoy your 1/2 lb chicken stuffed Burrito with cinna twists, nachos and sourcreme with that DIET COLA!
