Does The Heatsurge Amish Heater Work? Amish Mantle Fireplace

Many have seen the commercials for the Amish made Heatsurge or Heat Surge heater. How well does it work? Well here is the deal..
The Heatsurge Amish made heater is not made by the Amish. It is made of parts from China. The "mantle" which is assembled by the Amish is supposedly what you are buying and then you get the "fireplace" or heater for free. This is kind of like saying "buy this coat of paint and get the bicycle underneath for free. Sounds fishy, huh? The mantles, which are nothing more than cheap lacquered wood are indeed screwed together by some guys that belong to the peace loving Amish religion, but what makes the heater underneath so special.
The truth is there is nothing special or energy saving about this "Amish" heater at all. An electric heater uses resistance to generate heat. This is, hands down, the least energy efficient way of using electricity to generate heat that exists, period. Just like all 1500 watt space heaters it use 1.5 kilowatts per hour. If you pay eleven cents per kilowatt that's almost $4.00 per day and $120 per month four just one heater! Yikes! Try heating a typical 2500 square foot home in the Northeast with Amish Heatsurge heaters and you will need about six of them. Your electric meter will spin like a top. Not very energy efficient. (For information on how much energy appliances use and how to save energy see http://www.savegreenly.com )
The fake flame looks OK but compared to higher end models sold by Home Depot and Lowes it is not very realistic and looks like a fake flame from across the room.
The fake flame would be the only reason you might want to buy the Heatsurge heater but definitely not to heat your home with. Like they always say, if it sounds too good to be true...

Amish Heaters

I always thought those commercials were pretty odd. Good to know that they are not worth our hard earned money.
