Dog Meat is Yummy and Plentiful. Why Not Eat It? Asks Jonathan Safran Foer
posted November 3, 2009 - 10:11amMany countries have taboos against eating certain animals but not others. For example, the French love dogs but eat horse meat, and the Spanish eat cows but won't swallow horses. Americans adore their dogs also but have no ethical qualms about eating equally smart and sentient pigs. nbsp; So choosing what you eat and not eat is largely a matter of your specific cultural tradition. Jonathan Safran Foer, author of "Eating Animals", suggests that we throw away the rule book and get into eating dogs.
After all, millions of shelter dogs are euthanized every year because humans don't adopt them. And their rendered bodies are mixed with the feed of livestock eaten by humans. Foer suggests that we eat them directly instead, instead of indirectly through cows, pigs, chickens and pigs. He even offers a delicious recipe for Filipino dog stew that will have your mouth watering in no time. And Fido won't mind. After all, his rendered kin are also stirred into many dog foods.
Don't be a hypocrite and don't be squeamish. If you eat meat, there's no logical reason fo reject dog meat. So try it. You might like it!
