Don't Cry Wolf Please, It's A Waste Of Resources
posted February 11, 2009 - 2:11pmA search & rescue helicopter and its crew was launched in Wester Ross, Scotland to scour the 3,218ft Slioch hill when the word 'Help' was seen carved out of the snow near the summit.
Now, surely any decent person seeing such a message would try and contact some kind of authority and report said message? Luckily, despite having more than our fair share of neds, Scotland has plenty of decent folks. One of them called in the cry for help.
The chopper was half way there when it recieved radio contact from the area's police telling them to abort. Why? Because a small group of climbers were found on the mountain safe and in no danger at all. Turns out they had decided it would be funny to carve - not their names or a witty remark or even an offensive four letter word - but the word HELP.
