Don't Be Mad at the Baby Jesus!

Don't Be Mad at the Baby Jesus!

Is Christian music supposed to fuel anger?? I didn't think so, but it did that to me today. I was angry to begin with - long story - but Alter Ego has the boring story on his blog. I choose to let him blog about the mundane, boring events of the day because it allows me to be more creative and mildly entertaining for my "fans" without making them have to suffer through blogs that explain in excruciating detail what I did today.

So anyway...I was fuming angry at my douchebag of a boss. Actually both of them. They're so freakin' stupid it makes me wonder how they run a business. Sometimes I think they have mild retardation..but now I'm just going off on a tangent. So when I'm angry, I listen to angry music (Rob Zombie, Rage Against the Machine, Bette Midler, etc.) - pretty much as loud as I can. I turn the radio up until just before the blood begins to drip from my ear canal and my larger-than-average testicles angrily vibrate against the cushioned chair.

So I was flipping through the stations looking for some angry music. I turned it on what I thought was 89X because whatever was playing sounded like they were just pissed off at the world and themselves. The screeching guitars, the banging drums...everything. Until the lyrics of the chorus popped in. Amongst the anger and hate-filled guitar riffs, I hear, "Holy Holy Holy / You are Holy..." And I'm like, "WTF?? Angry Christian music??"

This made me even angrier. Christian music isn't supposed to make you mad, is it?? Shouldn't there be a distinction between the "devil's music" and "God music"?? God music is supposed to be harps and pianos and cheesy...or at least, that's what I thought. Come on, God people. I mean...what was the name of this group - Heaven's Hellcats?? Bitter Baptists?? The Wrathful Worshippers??

I didn't get it. How can you be angry if you're singing about the baby Jesus. I mean, if you're singing about baby Lucifer, ok - be a little perturbed. But the baby Jesus?? If you're angry about the baby Jesus, you got some problems because the baby Jesus never did anything to you. How many people think, "Ohhhh that baby Jesus...he just makes me sooooo angry!!"?? Even if you don't believe in the baby Jesus, how can you be angry?? He symbolizes love and peace and whatnot. If you got something bad to say about the baby Jesus, stay away from me because I won't tolerate any baby Jesus bashing.

wu-tang forever!

i love big baby jesus or ol' dirty bastard or whatever he'd call himself now if he weren't dead. why should his rap songs make people mad, unless you don't like songs about killing, beaches (i think that's what he was saying), and going to the brooklyn zoo. i like all those things so i love big baby jesus!

OK but...

Interesting read, but I still don't quite get how this situation further riled you up. I am a Christian, I listen to Christian rock, rap, and what you might call "traditional". It's all good to me. No offense, but if you only listened to a snip-it, are you sure you interpreted the song correctly? I'm 26, I don't always like listening to choir music with harps and things. Give me something I can move to, without all the lyrics about sex and drugs or getting liquored up. I will admit I have stumbled upon some that I wouldn't exactly classify as Christian music because of either the content or style. But please don't blanket-statement all Christian heavy-rock.

Glad to see other Christians here

Bdwick; figured you probably were a Christian. Glad to see some around, seems there is a lot of non christians posting evilolution theory around here.

Hello everyone, stop and set awhile.

Christian metal

There was that glam/metal Christian rock band in the '80s, Stryper, with a song/album called "To Hell with the Devil." This isn't a band name, but my mom went to a Methodist college whose sports teams were called "The Battling Bishops." Always sounded odd to me.

Ummm...duh

I know he didn't stay a baby...that would be ridiculous. And I was just trying to point out the hypocrisy in what some people call "Christian music." I, too, believe that He's our Lord and Savior...but I think that when people sing about him, it should be done in a different way than the way they sing about other stuff. They're not singing about a broken relationship or teenage angst...and the music they use should reflect as such...not just the lyrics. I was using satire to demonstrate a point.

Jesus isn't a baby anymore

Well first if all as much as everyone likes to think it. Jesus did not remain a baby anymore than anyone else did. He grew up, lived a life as an adult and literally gave his life willingly for all of humanity so we could have salvation. I know many here don't believe that. I do and don't care what you think. Time will prove me out. He is returning and all the signs are pointing to it more and more. Anyway I don't know what group you heard or who sang the song and your right Jesus did nothing to hurt anyone ever. I hope when you listen to loud music you consider if you will be able to do that in another 10 or so years. Or will you be so deaf you won't be able to hear anything. Give your poor ears a break. And know that Jesus loves you and he is not a baby anymore but our Lord and Savior.
