Don't Look Now But I Think We Are In Real Trouble
posted October 25, 2006 - 5:42pm I knew we were getting more clueless by the day but we may be in more trouble than I ever thought. Today I happened to be sitting in a doctor’s office where they had a television blaring away for our amusement. They happened to be discussing a new
website which is about to be launched named, “Showme.com”. It will be a series of recorded demonstrations which will instruct us how to do many amazing things such as how to brew a cup of tea and how to tie your shoes.
To say I was personally insulted by the idea of me or anyone else requiring instruction on ultra-ordinary tasks outraged me. I began to mumble to myself, “I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it.” When others in the waiting rooms chimed in with their own commentaries which agreed with mine. I added, “What next? Will they have to remind us it’s time to breathe?”
I predict that this will become an instant hit. Given the level of what passes for entertainment these days, perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that people can’t engineer a trip to the bathroom without help and maybe this will be one of the options for Showme.com. Maybe we can even project out into the future a decade or so to a second generation of this format in which it will show us how to turn on a faucet and how to put on your socks. Better yet, why bother wearing anything at all? And why not just go out into the woods and duck your face into a lake? I don’t know people, we are in real trouble.
