Dont Take Your Kid With You
posted October 12, 2009 - 9:31amOkay, I know this may seem like common sense and for a long time I thought it was, but lately im seeing a trend that upsets me and people need to understand is not okay. Stop bringing your children with you to see a divorce attorney please!!!!!
The attorney cannot and will not meet with you and discuss your divorce (or potential divorce) in the presence of your child (or children). As im sure you are aware, there are very sensitive topics that need to be addressed and a child should NOT be in the same room listening to it. And no, leaving them sitting in the lobby is not any better. The secretary/receptionist still has to answer phones, greet other clients and hold conversations that may not be appropriate for the child to hear.
Would you take your child with you the next time you have an appointment with your gynocologist or for your prostate exam? It's doubtful. So why do people think it's okay to bring their children with them to see and attorney and talk about ending their marriage?!?! Attorney's offices are not day care centers and they dont have sound-proof booths, therefore, dont bring your kids and if you don't have a sitter, then reschedule. Trust me, the attorney and staff would rather you reschedule, than bring the little ones with you.
