Doris Lessing, who won the Nobel Prize for literature today, has spent almost 60 years building a worldwide reputation as a writer who tackles big issues like social justice and gender roles with skill and passion.
Along the way - and it's been a long way, since she turns 88 next week - she's also become a disarmingly cheerful contrarian.
