Draconian Times Ahead? Stay Tuned For Breaking Developments

Today it was reported that the unemployment rate has reached 10.2%. What it did not nor will it ever report is that if you calculate into the equation all the people who are collecting unemployment but can only find part time work the rate goes up to 17.5%. Although during the Great Depression such figure were not calculated it is estimate that the rate then was at least 20%. This is not a harbinger of good times. And predictably, the official response is simply to throw more money at the problem, despite the fact that at no time in history when this remedy has actually worked, it is still the prescription.

Tomorrow there is an historic vote on “Socialized Medical Care” for the first time in our history. This vote, as it is being threatened or promised (the distinction seems to be a fine one given our current leadership), will apparently transpire despite the obvious groundswell against such policies as evidenced by results in key elections this week as well as the raucous town hall meetings and “Te Party” demonstrations all over the nation.

These and other current events portend draconian times ahead. At the center of activity which is actually the fuel behind the resistance, is the growing sentiment and realization that our elected officials and bureaucrats are acting as so much royalty and ignoring the will of those who in full effect employ them. This is the same attitude which Marie Antoinette expressed when she said that her peasantry should eat cake and when the starving masses were ignored by the Romanovs who lived in the lap of luxury in their countless palaces. We all know what happened to them and it is not with pleasure that I venture into the possibilities here.

The one great difference between events then in feudalistic societies and today in our culture is that we have a history of democracy. I do project that a systematic remedy will ensue but it very well may take on the characteristics of something beyond draconian. I can imagine many things emerging from this chaos some of which might be elimination of the tax system, expansion of right to work policies, massing a police and military force on our southern borders and repatriation of illegals back to their points of origin, an aggressive policy on energy self sufficiency including a crash program of nuclear generated electricity and a permanent repeal of moratoria on oil drilling anywhere in the nation including off the continental shelves, and no doubt a great deal more.

On a smaller note I foresee the disgust for the “Nanny State” reaching such a crescendo that we could even see no smoking in public places being repealed and even Proposition 13-like movements in every state.

These are just some of the most likely possibilities which I can foresee coming into fruition in upcoming months and years. But whatever it is, I do see drastic attitude shifts from all over the spectrum.
