Dreading Nursing School?
Dreading Nursing School?
For those of you who are considering nursing as a career and are afraid of what the future will hold for you, let me be the first to enlighten you. It is one of the hardest schools you will ever attend. You will begin by being told that very few people make it, which is something you have waited so long to hear; right? However, you will hear this throughout your entire career as a student. (and yes it will feel like a career)
Next, you will encounter the, oh lets see 15 books for one class reality. If that does not scare you, then maybe knowing that you will have at least one test a week (and not just a test; these test are theory test) to start out with. You will read everyday, and you will find yourself asking where do I find time to shower, eat and oh but yes sleep. You will find yourself utilizing every single book, disc, study guide, and friend you have available, and the internet will become your best-friend. Your boyfriend/husband/children/family will only see you in the rare moments that you are actually able to life your head from the blank pages you are staring at to say, "What".
Some feel, well if I can only make it past the first few weeks, or the first semester then I will be O.K. WRONG. This is an ongoing thing, never ending. You will soon become oblivious to the world around you, and the fun that you knew before you signed up. You will find yourself asking everyone in your class (as they are the only family you will know) is it worth it in the end, or better yet will I make it to the end?
Let me just say, Nursing is worth the Hell you will be put through. Yes, you really do get to save lives. Yes, you really are admired. Yes, it is worth it. However, if you are in it for the money quit now. Yes, you will do everything the doctor does not want to do and yes you will hear the same excuse from them, "I am only asking you because I do not have time." You will be your patent's Nurse, the only Doctor figure they will see, and in a lot of cases the only family and support system they have. So see, Nursing is rewarding and it is a neverending learning experience, but if you add up all you do, and all the time you put into it-well you should only do it it you LOVE it.
