Dry Drowning, Hidden Risks of the Little Known Phenomenom
Dry drowning is something few of us have ever heard of, those who have heard f it wish they had known about this hidden risk and the warning signs before dry drowning claimed another life.
Dry drowing occurs when a small amount of water enters the lungs, but gives a delayed reaction in the person. Signs may not present until up to 24 hours after being in the water.
The delayed reaction stems from not enough oxygen getting to the brain due to the water in the lungs.
The dry drowning victim will exhibit different behavior after having water enter their lungs- respiratory distress, fatigue and behavior changes. The dry drowning victim will be able to walk, talk and function otherwise normally.
Children are most vulnerable to the hidden risks of dry drowning, a small child can inhale enough water during bath time to cause them to become a victim of dry drowning.
After water exposure, if a person presents any signs of dry drowning, it is imperative to get them medical attention ASAP.
