The Dubliners - Eveline

What if you were given the chance to just up and leave, right now at this exact moment? To a far off land that you've never heard of. You don't know what the weather is like..what the people are like..if you could find a steady job to provide for yourself. Would it be worth it? Is the grass truly greener on the other side?

What if it was for love?

I recently got this idea from a book I've read called The Dubliners. There is a story in the book called "Eveline". It's a remarkable story, and I'm sure many can relate to it one way or another. Eveline is a girl living with her father and brother. She is the main caretaker of the house, her father is some what abusive, and her mother (who has lived an uneventful life) had died when Eveline was young. She always dreams of going to a far off land, leading a new life for herself. She receives the chance when she meets her love, Frank who is a sailor. Frank is ordered to travel to another place, and insists that Eveline follows with him, leaving her old life behind. However, she declines.

That is just a mind boggling scenario for me. The story always has me wondering. I've always wanted to go up to my mother and say "Oh hey Mom, I'm leaving, see you in a few years maybe." Very interesting.
